The “Cordillera Bamboo Day 2019” was hold on September 20th and 22nd. EDAYA has organized the “Cordillera Bamboo Day” every September since 2015. We produced the “Bamboo Theater Project” for the first time as the main event in this year. It was the educational theater project which utilizes bamboo for key medium (can be props, music, and story line). We got support from the Department of Education in Baguio, Philippines and KDDI Foundation in Japan.
9月20日と22日に “Cordillera Bamboo Day 2019″が開催されました。EDAYAは、2015年以来、毎年9月に、”Cordillera Bamboo Day”を運営しています。今年は、初めての試みとなる、“Bamboo Theater Project”を企画しました。これは、教育的な意味合いのある演劇のプロジェクトで、竹を表現手段として、小道具や音楽や脚本などに取り入れています。フィリピンの教育省と日本のKDDI財団からのサポートを受けて実施しました。
This project was organized by Edgar banasan form EDAYA, Raffy Kapuno, Lynette Vibal and Romel Fangot. They did workshops for around 40 students who were selected as performers from four different high schools in Baguio. They practiced every Saturday from July to September and the final rehearsal was held on September 19th. All students have been able to learn about Bamboo Cultures of Cordillera and foster their creativity through their workshops.
このプロジェクトは、 EDAYAのEdgar banasan, Raffy Kapuno, Lynette Vibal and Romel Fangotによって、企画、運営されました。彼らは、地元のバギオの４つの高校から、役者として選ばれた４０人の高校生に対して、ワークショップを行いました。６月から９月まで、毎週土曜日に練習を行い、９月１９日に最終リハーサルを行いました。生徒たちは、ワークショップを通して、コーディレラ地方の竹の文化を学び、クリエイティビティを育成することができました。
The real stage was held on September 20. The morning show was from 9 to 11 and the afternoon show was from 2 to 4. Bamboo installations for their stage were made by Edgar and professional musicians played music and background music on their stage. The audiences, who were around 2,000 students from local public schools, were really satisfied with their great performances.
本番のステージは、９月２０日でした。午前の公演は９時から１１時、午後の公演は2時から４時でした。Edgar が竹の舞台用のインスタレーションを作り、プロのミュージシャンが舞台音楽を演奏しました。観客は、地元の学校の２０００人ほどの生徒でした。観客たちは、生徒たちの素晴らしい演技に大変満足していました。

I hope that I can organize and find some fund to continue this project because it’s easier for me to teach our culture to the young generation through theater and performance. They had their assessment regarding the bamboo theater project in the end of October. Most of teachers highly evaluated with the result of the workshop. Some schools have already included this theater program to their curriculum!!
１０月にこのプロジェクトの評価が行われました。ほとんどの先生達が、ワークショップについて、高い評価を与えてくれました。いくつかの学校では、すでに学校のカリキュラムに演劇のプログラムを取り入れてくれたところがあります！！

-The activity is unique and it’s the first of its kind
-The students performed remarkably in the performance.
-The collaboration between mentors, focal person and participants was quite evident throughout the workshop.
-The participants are actively engaged in each activity.
-Knowledge that was transferred was primitive and apt, nature, rooted, innovative, efficient and interesting.
-A collaboration of the students and the stakeholders was seen in the preparation of the production (stage design, installations, costumes)
